FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Question: What's with the name, "Statustic"?
Answer: We find that once you start updating your status and using social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, it becomes almost like a nervous tic, something that you can't control, you have to update! And, it is somewhat memorable, since it's so close to the word "Statistic".
Question: But all my friends are looking for "Statistic" and can't find your app!
Answer: Remember, it's status-tic, not statistic, try saying it slower...or posting its name in your status for them! :)
Question: Why do my accounts sometimes say "Unable to communicate with ..."?
Answer: Because Statustic uses the direct API for each service, if that service is having problems, it will not be able to get your status or make updates. Other possible causes include not having a data connection to the internet via edge, 3G or WiFi, or having incorrect credentials setup on that account (usually only applies to Twitter).
Question: Why isn't it easier to link with Facebook and MySpace?
Answer: Again, since we use their APIs directly, these are the hoops we have to jump through, if we used intermediary servers, we could hide some of this from our users, but then your updates, setup, etc. would have to run through our servers, and we don't like that for privacy reasons. We are investigating enhancements that Facebook is making to their API to make that process more streamlined in a future release, stay tuned!
Question: Why does the app sometimes exit when linking my account or granting permissions?
Answer: The web view provided with the iPhone, which Statustic uses to link your account/grant permissions sometimes exits unexpectedly when a page with many large images (ads) loads, it can exit the app; we have found through extensive use and testing that this is very rare, and trying again usually resolves the problem - we continue to investigate alternatives to this process (see previous question & answer).
Question: Why does it sometimes take a long time to enable/disable accounts?
Answer: When you are on a slow data connection (edge) it can be slow to get your current status, as such it makes it seem "laggy" to enable/disable accounts. This will be addressed in a future release to make the UI more responsive in these conditions.
Question: Why does the UI "bounce" up and down when logging in to MySpace in portrait view?
Answer: This also seems to be an issue with the web view provided, it doesn't happen in landscape, and we strongly encourage everyone use landscape mode for the nicer keyboard, anyway!
Question: Why does my location sometimes not update properly?
Answer: This issue will be fixed in a future release, the iPhone caches location to conserve battery power, but it can be forced to update properly.
Question: How do I contact you with additional questions, suggestions, or feedback?
Answer: We
love to get feedback from our users, or prospective users, please contact us via our company contact page!

GENERAL SUPPORT - SETUP

Go to "Setup" at the top left of the screen and press "+ Add New Service". Select the type of service you wish to add at the top (you can have as many of each type of service as you want), follow the instructions on the screen, and press "Save" at the top right when you're done, before you add your next account. Repeat as needed for all your accounts.  Specific instructions for each type of account:
  • Twitter: Give the account a friendly name (this will be used for sorting and labeling the account), then enter your login (not email address), password, and press "Save" in the top right corner.
  • Facebook: Give the account a friendly name, then click on "Link Account" which will take you to a Facebook webpage where you login with your Facebook credentials (you do not have to check the box to keep you logged in), once you have logged in, you will see a message that your account was successfully linked, then press "Done" in the top right corner of the web view.  Next, click "Grant Permission" where you will again grant Statustic the ability to update your Facebook account's status, when you have completed that, press "Done" in the top right corner again.  Finally, press "Save" back at the "Add New Service" window - phew, you're done!
  • MySpace: Similar to Facebook, give the account a friendly name, then click on "Link Account" which will take you to a MySpace webpage where you type the Email address you use for your MySpace account and your MySpace Password, then press "Continue" on the MySpace page below Email/Password.  Then, MySpace will ask you if you allow Statustic to access your media/streams/messages/profile data.  All should be checked by default, just press Continue again (note that this only happens the first time you setup MySpace, it is equivalent to Granting Permission in Facebook, per above, MySpace just combines them into one step).  Once you have logged in, you will see a message that your account was successfully linked, then press "Done" in the top right corner of the web view.  All done, don't forget to press "Save" back at the"Add New Service" window!

GENERAL SUPPORT - UPDATE STATUS

At the dashboard (main screen), tap in the <What are you doing now?> area and enter your status using the keyboard that appears. At this point you can also insert your location and/or publish the update directly from the buttons above the keyboard, or you can press "Done" on the keyboard to return to the dashboard screen (if you want to send your update later, or enable/disable services to update). If everything goes well, your updates will be made directly with the provider.

GENERAL SUPPORT - PRIVACY

Unlike many other apps, Statustic does not route your updates through intermediary servers - we don't log your updates, we don't mine for advertising (or any other) purposes, we don't sell, or even collect, any of your information. All communications are done directly from your iPhone to the provider via their API. All passwords, keys and tokens are stored securely via the iPhone's secure Keychain. Under no circumstances does Statustic send any information to us, we take your privacy very seriously, hence devoting an entire section to it!

OTHER HINTS
  • Don't forget to use the landscape keyboard (if you choose) for typing, it is fully supported!
  • You can use the Location and Publish buttons on the dashboard without opening the keyboard to quickly update your location on the go.
  • You can click the Location button a second time to remove the location from the status update.
  • The text you enter into the status update field is saved if you exit the application.
  • You can delete accounts in "Setup" - swipe your finger across an account to bring up the delete button, just like in other apps.
  • You can disable/enable accounts, if you don't want to change them all with a given update, by clicking on them once on the dashboard.
  • You can remove a service from the dashboard (which also prevents them from being updated) by flipping the "Show on dashboard" switch to "OFF" in the settings for a given service.
  • If you can't see your whole status, or want to see historical updates by clicking on the ">" next to the account. MySpace doesn't support historical status in their API.
